Florida's Winter Wonderland

It's that time of year again to trade in slush and snow piles for snow-white beaches, tropical blue skies and warm breezes.  Florida's weather forecast for the next three months puts the average temperature across the state at about 60 degrees - and even warmer in some areas like sultry Key West where 72 degrees is the average.

Minimal chances of rain, and zero percent chance of snow, make the winter months some of the best for a Sunshine State sojourn.  Come visit and spend the winter surfing the Atlantic, bicycling through forests, playing at theme parks or simply relaxing on the beach.

Historical Attractions - Florida's past is as colorful as its man-made wonders.  From the arrival of the Spanish in the 16th century to the coming of the railroad in the 19th century, Florida's evolution has been fraught with intrigue, tragedy and romance.  Share this lustrous past in our many historical museums, old houses and churches, historic districts and reenactments of historic events.
Florida's Natural History
Perhaps one of Florida's most valuable assets is its wilderness, much of which is preserved in state and national parks and in many botanical and zoological gardens.  Enjoy the adventures of snorkeling, kayaking, canoeing, hiking and more surrounded by lush and abundant plant life, sharing the habitats of our unique native wildlife.

Historical Lodgings - Share the glorious history of Florida while vacationing among its many other splendors.  Restored historic hotels and many bed and breakfast inns offer you accommodations rich in local history, furnished in fine antiques and collectibles from years gone by.  Many proprietors are experts in local legend and history and love to share their knowledge with guests.

Museums - Rich treasures await you in the many cultural, history and science museums throughout Florida.  From the intriguing works of the old masters to the colorful canvases of Florida's own, from hands-on science exhibits for children to giant prehistoric animal skeletons, from historic house museums to exhibitions from ancient Egypt, you'll find it all right here in our wondrous state.

Performing Arts - The bright lights of the world's greatest cities could never host a better variety of performing arts than offered throughout Florida.  Live performing arts presentations feature fine local talent as well as internationally known performers. Symphony, ballet and opera; Broadway shows and classical theater; standup comedy and pop music concerts - take a tour of Florida's fabulous cultural scene.

From the husky scent of cigars in Tampa's Ybor City to the untamed wilderness of an Indian reservation, from the brightly colored Flamenco dancers of Miami's Little Havana to the smooth sounds of live jazz, our cultural and ethnic mosaic is a feast for the senses.  Florida is an international destination, so it's fitting that our diverse populace reflects this.  Scattered throughout the state are many monuments, sites and historic landmarks that serve as a testament to different ethnic groups' efforts to survive and prosper in a changing environment, and a chronicle of their achievements and contributions.

No matter what your interests, you will find an attraction in Florida to enjoy.

Mouse ears and the major theme parks of the Orlando area are what first come to mind as Florida attractions, but they are only the beginning.  Wildlife and botanical attractions are among the most popular and include both large parks and zoos and small private gardens.  Florida's rich history is reflected in museums, monuments, forts and homes throughout the state.  For a cultural excursion, fine art museums have works from Dali to Rubens, sculpture and architecture by names such as Frank Lloyd Wright.

Spas - Welcome to the land of milk and honey, a delicious world of almonds and oranges; nutmeg, sage and cloves; creamy yogurts, fruit nectars, and fragrant teas from the Far East. But you won't find these essential body nutrients on your breakfast tray.  They are the mystical, magical potions of spa-land.

With them you will be massaged, bathed, stroked, soaked and misted.  You will be scrubbed, buffed and polished with costly salts from the Dead Sea, thermal black muds from Hungary, iron-rich seaweeds from the ocean depths and volcanic ash from the Central American rainforest.  You may be wrapped like a newborn babe in herbal-infused sheets or bathed in the nectar of flowers from Indonesia.  You may float on a bed of music suspended in space, or soak in pure mineral springs emanating from deep within the earth.  You may bask in the golden glow of a Finnish sauna or enveloped in the cloud of a eucalyptus-scented steam bath.  Above all, you will be nurtured by healing hands that un-knot overstressed muscles and whisk away the toxins of environment-assaulted skin.

Afterward, your tennis game will be perfect.  You'll shave two strokes off your golf game, speak gently to your children, and nod graciously to the snake who just stole your parking space. As for romance, well...

Florida has the highest concentration of world-class spas in North America.  There are resort spas, destination spas and day spas; private island spas, spas perched like sand castles on white powdery beaches, and spas hidden behind the ancient wall of centuries-old houses.

Romantic Getaways - Oranges and sunsets tell one story of Florida, but there's a lot more under the sun in the Sunshine State for couples in love to experience.  Care to chill in a seaside café with the nation's trendsetters?  Book a room in Miami's South Beach.  Enjoy the arts?  Think Sarasota.  Wildlife? The Everglades.  Lush woodlands?  The Northwest is for you.  Conjure up an image of the environment you believe will be the most romantic for you and your love and Florida will deliver.

Every part of this state has its own bounty of goods, from powder-white oceanfront sands to relaxing river sails, from serene, secluded islands to luxurious center-city resorts.  In this section, you can learn more about the state's eight regions, each rich with signature pleasures, as well as find information on marriage laws in Florida.
