Travel to the Caribbean...where it meets the Atlantic. There lies a chain of sixty islands called the Caribbean Islands.  With hundreds of secret bays and hidden coves, they have long been a seafarers' haven. Inhabited by Arawak and Carib tribes and later renamed by Columbus, the islands were once teeming with pirates and privateers who preyed on the Spanish galleons bound for Europe with Incan gold.

Today the pirates are no more, but travelers from all over the world still come to this place in the Caribbean to search for the little treasures which nature has hidden here.  Be it a barefoot walk along some deserted beach, or a lazy afternoon spent swimming and snorkeling off of a yacht, you are sure to leave the Caribbean Islands with memories to treasure.

In our little bit of paradise, the most captivating little hotels, inns, villas and cottages dream quietly on the hillsides or nestle on the edges of blindingly white beaches, a silver dollar's throw from the most beckoning blue you've ever seen.

Discover why the world's greatest charter fleet makes its home here. It has been 500 years since Columbus first sailed through and named these islands after Saint Ursula and her 11,000 virgin martyrs, and yet the islands are still as undiscovered and unspoiled today as they were then.

Imagine taking your holiday in a place where you can rent a boat as easily as you can a car. Where breeze becomes your fuel and the Sir Francis Drake Channel, your highway. There is no fast lane and the exits are where ever you want them to be.

60 plus islands. Hundreds of anchorages. Choose your pleasure craft.  Take yourself and your group in a runabout to the Indians for a snorkel. Charter a luxury crewed yacht for a week where you will be swept off to quiet anchorages and served exquisite gourmet meals.  Or climb aboard a stable sailing catamaran for the day, lounge out on the foredeck and let your captain and crew take you to several stops that you might have otherwise missed.  Visiting yachtsman on their own boats will find just as much pleasure in sailing these waters where marinas are few but not far between.

We're big on small resorts; even our biggest luxury resorts have, maybe, a hundred rooms.  For the small budget, there are campsites, and at the other end of the scale, a choice of private tropical islands.

Nature has been generous to us in the Caribbean Islands, and we take our role as the keepers of her gifts very seriously.  And what gifts they are! Remnants of a primeval rain forest on Sage Mountain, coral reefs as old as the hills that make up our islands, grottoes and caves formed by ancient granite boulders.

We cherish our Botanic Garden, in all its mature splendor, and take pride in our web of wildlife. We share our land and waters with leatherback turtles who are born here and return, and humpback whales who migrate annually, pass with their calves alongside.

Pelicans hide their nestlings in a maze of mangroves. Pink flamingos wade gingerly in the Anegada salt pond. Zenaida doves and killy-killy hawks share our skies. Geckos and mongoose commune in the bush.

We invite you to share in our secrets and join us as role keepers.  Look, watch, listen and learn, and in doing so, you will have memories to take with you, leaving the beauty undisturbed for generations to admire.

Whether above or below the water, experienced travelers and adventurers from all over the world consider the Caribbean  Islands to be the water sports capital of the Caribbean.

Float in the warm waters and watch trigger fish, angel fish or grunts dart among the corals, rich with the colors of the rainbow.  Or dive beneath the surface to discover the real excitement, the wrecks of men-of-war and Spanish galleons, their water-filled holds and wheel houses home to exotic sea creatures.

Spend a day bone fishing off the beach or on remote flats wrapped in a silence that's audible.  Fit on fins and a mask and follow our snorkeling trails.  We can show you how to windsurf in two hours. We have surf boards and body boards, water skis and water wings.

The Caribbean is host to some great fishing, diving and windsurfing events during the year, check to see what's on during your visit.

Bring your own gear or let us fit you out at one of our many local water sports businesses.  No matter what you bring with you, one thing is certain, once you've felt the sand between your toes, you'll be back, again and again.

From Pirates and Privateers to Tourists and Trust companies, from the earliest Indians right up to the present day, the Caribbean Islands have a history which is long and colorful.

Evidence from a number of pre-Columbian sites, recently excavated in the Caribbean, indicate the existence of tribes from South America living here centuries before Columbus arrived.

The Europeans followed Columbus and, for the next few centuries, fought over the Virgin Islands leaving behind a chain of defensive stone forts built by the Dutch, English, and Spanish, seen still along the coastlines. Piracy was rife and most of the legends of treasure and shipwreck date back to those lawless times.

In times of peace, sugar plantations were established by the European colonists and remnants of the cane fields and great houses can still be traced in the valleys and hillsides of the larger British Virgin Islands.

Peoples from many different African nations were brought across the Atlantic on old sailing ships and sold to plantation owners, who put them to work in the cane fields and rum distilleries.  Times and fortunes have changed and yet the unique legacy of their cultures is evident today in the language, architecture, herbal and culinary arts, religion, and in art, music and dance.  It is this wonderful mix that makes our island heritage so vividly unique.

In modern times, despite the diminutive size of the territory, we have earned a significant position on the world stage in a number of disciplines, including philately, tourism, film location, the Financial Services , and environmental awareness.

Whether you are at the top of a mountain or sitting on the beach, take a deeper, second look around you and you may discover glimpses of the past..... a hint of a ruined wall, a scar on a hillside of an ancient boundary, the stark outline of an antique windmill, or the dark shape of a shipwreck, out on the reef, beyond the bay.

Pink conch shells glistening in the afternoon sun. The song of Cocqui frogs as the sun sets beneath the amber sky.  The rustling of palm leaves as the warm trade winds gust over the bluest of seas.  When we are surrounded by Nature's Little Secrets it is little wonder that our many artists, musicians, authors and crafts people find so much in these islands to inspire them.

It is a place held dear to our hearts and minds and the abundance of creativity is for all eyes, ears and hands to appreciate.  Listen to the sounds of steel drums and Fungi music, browse through the galleries flowing with local artists' work, read our literature to discover our history.

While you are here, fill your spirit with diverse traditions that have evolved into our own very unique culture.  To share it with our guests is to allow it to flourish.
